True Voice

This week I wanted to talk about having a true voice. We've all seen a lot in life. We've been bumped around enough, compare ourselves to others, look to others for feedback, and in some cases hold ourselves back. All of your joy, your impulses, your solution for yourself, your true voice all comes from getting aligned with yourself. Having a true voice simply means it's coming from you. You can never be untrue, say the wrong thing or be inauthentic because whatever you speak is coming from you. So let's talk about self worth. When you look to others to help make you feel better, remember it isn't anyone's job to make you feel good or help you figure out who you are. If you keep looking outside yourself, measuring yourself by what your peers are going through, or caring about the opinions of others - this doesn't make your voice less true. It just makes you not feel good. The highest source of opinion comes from you, never anyone else. And it takes practice. Really and seriously not giving a shit what anyone thinks takes practice. You'll meet with resistance because there is control from others. They'll want you to stay in the ascribed role you're in so it may feel like all hell is breaking loose when you start to change. But you can't give up! Because you can never please anyone. I say this because if someone needs to be pleased and it's dependent on your behavior - they are simply "unpleasable".

So when you feel a little wobbly about yourself, remember those times when you spoke your truth. When your feelings didn't get hurt, you felt good in your own skin and you made easy decisions. Remember those times and the feelings surrounding it. You really can't care what anyone thinks because they aren't you. Even the person closest to you or your family - it doesn't matter what they think. The most important relationship is between you and you. And you've got to be true to yourself. Stay true to you. ❤

Abundance

This is one of the last pieces from my show at Land and it's probably one of my favorites because it was the first piece I made for the show. It's called Abundance and this week I wanted to talk about that very thing. Abundance by definition means a very large quantity of something. When we think of abundance we think about having a lot of stuff... but it can be so much more than that. When humans think of success or happiness, we talk of getting the goal, having the stuff, getting the girl/guy, having the most... Abundance certainly means those things. But you can also have an abundance of love, gratitude or happiness. It doesn't necessarily pertain to having a tangible object. It can be more about a state of being. If you look around and you don't see or feel abundance, realize it doesn't even have to be about your reality either. I say this because I've seen people, who from the outside seem like they don't have much, have so much more in their inner well being. So find where you have abundance, even if it's future visions or getting creative in your imagination. Abundance is everywhere.

Freedom

The concept of freedom is something I wanted to talk about this week. When we think of freedom, some may think of governmental freedom, the power to act, speak or think as one wants or the state of being physically unrestricted. Whatever point of view you take, freedom really boils down to the feeling of ease, openness, independence and in some cases power. In life, there is family stuff, work stuff, laws and things that can feel like limitations and restrictions to personal freedom. But it's your mind that allows you to be free within the form. Freedom comes from within. Instead of saying you have to, tell yourself that you get to. How you choose to look at it helps to know you have choices.

Feeling free involves trust too. Pushing for things without using your intuition can create a lot of struggle. Letting go of the need to control events, yourself or others can help free things up. It's really liberating to let yourself and others off the hook. Give yourself the gift of ease in the moment you feel restriction. Every choice you made and every step you have taken in your life has brought you to the place you are now. You are where you are. You've done your best with what you know and there is no right or wrong path in life.

This piece is called Freedom and expresses the feeling of freedom within form.

Daydream

This week I wanted to talk about daydreaming. Do you believe in it or allow yourself to do it? Do you set aside time to daydream for yourself? Society puts down daydreaming as a waste of time. Some call it fantasy, delusions or wishful thinking. I think daydreaming is super important as a way to feel good right in the moment. Your daydreams can be anything you want, they can be happy moments in your reality or visions of what you want for your future. The key is to stay away from negative thoughts of your past or fears of your future - then it's not daydreaming anymore but more languishing or fear projections. Daydreams are pleasant distractions and that is ok. It's important to allow time in your mind for yourself. Revel and use your imagination. Whatever you visualize or think about, can sometimes become a reality if you think about them long enough. Imagination and creative visualizing is truly a powerful thing. I just found out that Tim Gunn daydreams every Sunday. This piece 'Dream Lovers' is from my show at Land and reflects the feelings of the joy of daydreaming. Do you daydream? ❤

Into the Light

We just entered into our Spring Equinox this past Friday. Here in Portland, we got a jump start on our flower blooms in early March but I'm sure the rest of the country is catching up now. The days are getting longer and we have more daylight well into 7 o'clock. Spring is a time of moving out of winter's hibernation, change your wardrobe, eat different foods, spend time outdoors or get the yard ready for plantings. Seeing color, light and being able to be outdoors more often lifts moods and sparks energy. Spring is also a time for coming up with new ideas and planning how to execute them soon. I love this time of year, mostly because the flowers are so pretty and fragrant. And I know Summer is just around the corner (my favorite season). Oh, but I can't put down Winter! I love Winter too with all it's long blustery weather, big scarves, hot soups and heavy blankets. I feel because of Winter, Spring is so much more joyful to experience. This piece from my show at Land is called 'Into the Light' and it reflects this sentiment.
